The Manager is responsible for advising physician leadership in the development of Mayo Clinic’s federal policy positions and priorities in the areas of information technology, federal research programs and funding, laboratory medicine and treatment regulation and approval.

This position supports the organization’s development of Mayo Clinic Platform as well as emerging areas of research and treatment development. The Manager also translates the implications of key policy developments to internal stakeholders and advises leaders on development and implementation of the organization’s public policy priorities and positions. It is expected that this role will interact frequently with federal agencies, including but not limited to, NIH, FDA, CDC, ONC and HHS. Essential functions include:

• Monitoring and evaluating federal regulatory issues to assess impact and opportunity for Mayo Clinic and our patients
• Proactively crafting policy and education campaigns to inform elected officials, staff, regulators and policy thought leaders on Mayo Clinic’s unique value and priorities
• Represents Mayo Clinic and our patients with policymakers and relevant internal leaders to understand emerging issues and develop policy solutions to address identified priorities
• Contributes to and coordinates Mayo Clinic’s assessment of policy proposals and responses to formal and informal comment and feedback opportunities
• Manages and oversees projects and staff as needed, providing professional growth opportunities as appropriate
• Manages external consultants, trade association relationships and partners to ensure effective strategy and coordination


• Bachelor's degree in relevant field; Master's degree preferred
• Seven to ten years of related professional experience in the field of government relations, public affairs, information technology or scientific research and development
• Experience working with federal health science and data agencies, including but not limited to NIH, FDA, CDC and ONC
• Experience working at the intersection of research and business or research and policy, including a demonstrated ability to distill complex technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical stakeholders
• High degree of creativity, flexibility, ability to build new work areas and tackle new types of analytic challenges
• Strong leadership and communication skills, ability to manage teams and advise executives in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.

• Candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills that are effective in communication to a diverse set of audiences.
• Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with Mayo Clinic team members, legislators, regulators and government staff.
• Candidate should be team-oriented with a sense of humor, self-awareness and the ability to succeed in a fast-moving environment.
• Additional opportunities for professional development and growth are anticipated.
• Position can be located in Rochester, MN or Washington, DC. Candidate will be expected to spend up to 20% of his or her time traveling to Mayo Clinic sites across the country and/or Washington, DC.
