External Communications Manager -- Government Benefit Card Programs

The External Communications Manager -- Government Benefit Card Programs role will be responsible for providing communications counsel on all Comerica government benefit card programs. This role will include development and execution of the Comerica government benefit card program strategies for public relations, government relations, media relations, social networking, crisis communications, speechwriting and presentation preparation. It will also serve as the Comerica spokesperson for Comerica government benefit card programs, interacts directly with Comerica leadership and the Fiscal Service and oversees any third-party vendors, such as PR firms.
 
Position Responsibilities:
Public Relations & Government Relations
  • Develops, directs, plans, and evaluates Comerica government benefit card for public relations activities and programs.
  • In coordination with Comerica's government relations office, assist in developing communications that go to regulators, government officials, etc.
  • Acts as a main point of contact with media outlets for Comerica government benefit card programs.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of a positive and broad media network.
  • Responsible for Comerica government benefit card program crisis communications.
  • Develops and implements Comerica government benefit card program social media strategy.

Cardholder Communications
  • Responsible for all Comerica government benefit card program cardholder communications that escalate into PR opportunities and challenges.
  • Responsible for all Comerica government benefit card program communications nationally (including Comerica markets and beyond), and accountable for results including, but not limited to:
  • The number of proactive and reactive media outreaches, and corresponding article placements; and maximizing positive publicity for the bank and minimizing any negative publicity.
  • Collaborates with executives and division leaders in all geographies and business units across the bank, government officials as needed, and the Fiscal Service.
  • Manages the Comerica government benefit card program communications budget nationally.

Requirements

Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in journalism, marketing, communication, public affairs or related field
  • 6 years of experience in public relations or media relations
  • 6 years of experience in working with the news media
  • 6 years of experience in working with senior leadership and executive management
  • 6 years of experience in working with government officials
  • 6 years of experience managing a large budget
  • 5 years of experience in managing social media
  • 5 years of experience utilizing Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
