The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is seeking a Director, AAP National Center on Social Media and Youth Mental Health (Grant-funded) in our Washington, DC office. This position, funded for 5 years, will serve as Project Director for the AAP Center of Excellence: Creating a Healthy Digital Ecosystem for Children and Youth (Center) grant and oversee the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of all Center activities.

 

The Director will provide strategic oversight of Center of Excellence program implementation and ensure the Center meets funder and AAP goals and objectives within stated timelines. The Director will supervise a Program Manager, AAP National Center on Social Media and Youth Mental Health (grant funded).

Goals will include building and growing relationships with strategic partners in social media, digital ecosystems, mental health, and other relevant fields, and oversee development and implementation of center activities and events, workplans, and partnerships.

 

We are looking for an individual with a Bachelor’s degree in public health, health care administration, communications, or related field required; MPH or other related master’s degree preferred andat least six years’ related experience in health policy, public health program planning and administration. Experience with technical writing and/or editing is required, as well as supervising staff or serving as a team lead. Familiarity with social media, digital technology, and mental health is a plus. This individual must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, negotiation, diplomacy, critical thinking and written/verbal communication skills. A successful candidate will be able to take initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and manage projects with tight deadlines. Some travel and evening/weekend work is required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians’ availability.
